Therapy

Therapy. Last week I had the pleasure of delivering a mental health message during a company wide call. I shared that I’ve been going to therapy for well over 3 years and find its benefits extremely helpful.

What is your reaction when you hear someone is going to therapy? Immediately you may think that something is wrong with them, they are mentally unstable, and may be dealing with a mental illness.

Therein lies the problem with our current state of mental health. There is a stigma associated and we struggle with openly discussing mental health as individuals and a society. I struggle with sharing my thoughts and feelings and keep things bottled up, because I want to come across as strong, stable, and someone that always has their shit together. These struggles come from how I was raised and is not something that is easily changed without ongoing focus and work.

What are the benefits of regular therapy? Sharing your thoughts and feelings without being judged. Talking through challenges and situations you may be confronting, whether they are personal or professional. Learning how to show compassion towards yourself and becoming more resilient. The benefits are endless and if you haven’t tried a therapy session, give it a try, you will not be disappointed. #mentalhealth
